COLLINGTON SEEKS TO RETAIN THE TRAINER TITLE IN THE ARABIAN HORSE ORGANIZATION CHALLENGE CUP AT ROYAL WINDSOR Windsor October 23, 2023 3The 2023 Arabian Racing Organisation (ARO) season concludes at Royal Windsor on Monday 23 October with the Arabian Horse Organization Challenge Cup in which Phil Collington seeks to regain the top spot from his near neighbour James Owen to retain the leading trainers title. A race for 3-year-old purebred Arabian horses of the 1st group of domestic breeding, 7 entered into the Polish Stud Book of Arabian Horses
AJS Alkadriyah (FR) (AF AlBahar x Frangipane Al Maury), opened the proceedings of the season with a 2¼- length win for trainer Mohammed Salama Ashour in the Purebred Arabian Maiden Plate for 3-6YO fillies and mares over 1200m with Rashid Ali Al-Marri in the saddle. The Mohammed Nawaf M N Al-Rayes-owned and Mohammed Ghazali-trained Taya (FR) (Dahess) finished second under jockey Lukas Delozier while the Rashid Antar K A Al-Marri-owned and Mohamed Khaled Elahmed-trained Roqayya (QA) (Alam Al Khalediah) finished third under jockey Anas Al Seyabi.
The race had 9 starters, several Heritage Arabians among them. All started well except one of the 3 unraced horses: the French JAGUAR DE L’ARDUS, who later-on impressively climbed up to a well-deserved fourth place. YASHAR D.A., the most experienced of the lot took the lead very soon and kept it till the end, bringing another well-deserved win for breeder/owner /trainer Johan Verstrepen of Dijkhoeve Arabians. Two heritage horses: EMEND (Polish bred) and PYTHAGORAS K.A. were in the frontlines in the earlier part of the race but dropped once the end-sprint started. The Ahmed Hassan Al Malki Al Jehani-owned Alhafar (FR) (Al Mamun Monlau x Farh) started the season with a brilliant bounce back to earlier good standard, adding a third win to his record in the 1700m Purebred Arabian Handicap (70-90) for 3YO+, which he took by 1¼ lengths for trainer Hamad Al-Jehani with jockey Arnaud De Lepine in the saddle.
