UAE, Meydan, 30 March 2024
In a thrilling race at Meydan on Dubai World Cup day, the prestigious Kahayla Classic, worth a million dollars and run over 2000 meters on dirt, saw Tilal Al Khalediah emerge victorious. This race, known for its rich tradition in Arabian thoroughbred racing, was a significant win for Saudi Arabia and Al Khalediah Stable.
Tilal Al Khalediah, now boasting 10 wins in 11 races, was expertly guided by jockey Adel Al Furaydi and trained by Nasser Mutlaq Alkahtani. Despite the high expectations for the undefeated Asfan Al Khalediah, who had won all 14 of his previous races, it was Tilal who claimed the top spot. Asfan faced a more challenging race, initially stuck in the middle of the pack and then forced to take costly outside lanes.
Tilal’s race was much smoother. Kept second on the rope by Al Furaydi, he stayed close to the leader, Af Alwajel, before making a decisive move in the final 400 meters. Tilal surged ahead, winning comfortably by 6.5 lengths over Barakka, who finished second for the second consecutive year. Asfan managed to secure third place, trailing nearly 10 lengths behind his stablemate.
Both Tilal and Asfan are sons of Laith Al Khalediah, adding to the legacy of their sire. Trainer Mutlaq Alkahtani had hinted before the race that Tilal, being fresher, might have the better chance, and his prediction proved accurate.
This victory underscores the strength and skill of Al Khalediah Stable and their continued dominance in Arabian horse racing.
