Lone Star Park, Texas 24 November 2023
What RB MARY LYLAH (Al Mourtajez x Rich Kinkga) accomplished in her first season of racing in 2023 will go down in history. She won two graded stakes races against male horses. First, there was the Texas Lone Star Juvenile against 3-year-old colts and geldings on October 13 by 18 1/4 lengths, the largest margin of victory in the history of the race. She followed that up by defeating older male horses by 4 lengths in the Grade 2 Open Division of the Texas Arabian Stallion Stakes at Lone Star Park on Friday night. Jockey Anardis Rodriguez and trainer Jerenesto Torrez also won the 2022 Texas Arabian Stallion Stakes with Darley Award Horse of the Year Diamond Gem AA, who became the first 3-year-old to win the race since the great T M Fred Texas in 2010. Will this win propel RB Mary Lylah to Horse of the Year? If it does, she’ll be the first 3-year-old filly to win Horse of the Year since Sand Witchh in 2009. RB Mary Lylah was bred and is owned by Rosebrook Farm. She is part of the first crop in America for sire Al Mourtajez and is out of the prolific dam Rich Kinkga. Her final time for 1 mile in the Texas Arabian Stallion Stakes was 1:49.46. Honey Proof finished second. Kissouur was third, his third top-three finish in three weeks.
